SANNA

Sanna's family lives in Lappeenranta in eastern Finland. As our second exchange daughter, 1989-90, Sanna joined our daughter, Stefanie, in singing with the Seattle Girl's Choir while here. The Choir was invited to tour Finland the summer after Sanna returned home. As a member of the Choir, she toured Finland and surprised the audiences by announcing the choir songs in "perfect Finnish !".

We have become friends with the family of her best friend at Renton High School, Jette Anderson (an exchange student from Denmark) who came to our house to eat potatoes while here.

Sanna has made two return visits to Seattle, in 1991 with her hometown youth choir and 1993 on a five month University of British Columbia, Canada study exchange. Sanna is currently studying clinical medicine in Kuopio, Finland, after numerous other courses of university study.

July 1, 1999

We were very excited to have a two week visit here in Seattle this Spring with Sanna, her mother, and her brother. Tomppa was busy taking pictures of "typical American" small town, trucks, etc. It was a wonderful time together, but as always, it was too short.

Sanna will start her last year of medical school next Fall. Nancy had an opportunity to meet her and her family in Kuopio this past May while teaching a Dynamic Orthotics workshop there. It was great fun to see her apartment and time again together. Sanna will be doing vacation relief for several doctors in Helsinki community mental health clinics this Summer.

March 1, 2001

Sanna is moving back to Helsinki for the Summer with Pauli, who became tired of the commute and moved to Kuopio for the Spring. She will work in the same community mental health program as before and resume the last year of her medical school studies in August. Nancy is hopeful to make connections whille teaching briefly in Helsinki the end of May.



October, 2003


Sanna is now a wife ! She and Pauli were married in December, 2002 in Suomenlinna, which is an old fortress in front of Helsinki, the place where they met June 1999 and where they got engaged December, 2001.

She is currently working in a community health care center as a general practioner, which is compulsory for at least 9 months. Pauli is now working on his theses to complete his degree of business and economics. They have a wonderful apartment in Helsinki.

We hope to be able to visit them in the near future.

We are Grandparents! 

Sanna gave birth to a lovely baby boy today.  His name is Pyry.
Dad & Mom are doing just great. But Mom isn't getting too much rest.
